Dear Parishioners of Saint Polycarp,

This week is a very special week for us Christians because it is Holy Week, a week we journey with Christ from the moment He entered Jerusalem; instituted the Last Supper; prayed at the Garden of Gethsemane; was arrested and placed on trial before the Sanhedrin and Pilate; condemned by the crowd; carried and crucified on the Cross; died and resurrected.

On Holy Thursday, at the Last Supper Mass, I kindly ask that you pray for all priests of Jesus Christ. Through the sacred priesthood, the sacraments in the Church are dispensed and given in the name of Jesus. On Good Friday, I invite you to look at the Holy Cross and the tomb where Our Savior was buried. The cross, a symbol of cruelty; and the tomb, a symbol of death—are now signs of hope. On Holy Saturday, at the Easter Vigil Mass, I invite you to lift up your faith and join it with the resurrected Christ, for through His resurrection our sins are abolished, and eternal life is restored. The door of heaven is swung open for us. The resurrection is our hope.

Joining my brother priests, deacons, religious sisters, and all parish staff, I wish each of you a very joyful and happy Easter! Christus resurexit!

Notably, you will see the third Advent Candle is “rose,” and the presider’s vestment may be either in “violet” or “rose” color. It is called “Gaudete” Sunday because the time to wait and to prepare for…
