This year Ash Wednesday falls on February 14th—Valentine’s Day. As you know this is a day of both prayer and fasting and as such all Catholics without a medical impediment from age 18 until age 59 are to fast (one full meal and two smaller meals that do not equal a full meal) and all Catholics without a medical impediment 14 years and older are to abstain from meat. Dispensations from these praise-worthy disciplines will not be granted.
May we unite our sacrifices with the Lord who fasted 40 days in the desert and gave His life for our salvation on the cross, so that one day we may be with Him at the heavenly banquet. Bishop Tim Freyer Comments are closed.
