Pastor Corner

To my brothers and sisters in Christ, First, I thank everyone who prepared to celebrate the Feast of Saint Polycarp on Saturday, February 23, as well as everyone who participated in our celebration that day. I thank you and appreciate very much whatever gifts you have been sharing with others in the community of St. Polycarp. Secondly, we have begun to “Journey Together” during this Lenten Season, seeking “Destination Holiness” for our life. This weekend, we begin a Parish Mission, from the 23rd to the 26th, to prepare ourselves to celebrate the Paschal Mystery of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Let us reform our life each day in order to be a holy person so that we can serve and bring the good tiding to others. Thirdly, we have known that Jesus has shown us the way to life in the Gospel of the first Sunday of Lent:
a) “One does not live on bread alone, but on very word that comes forth from the mouth of God;
b) You shall not put the Lord, your God, to the test;
c) The Lord, your God, shall you worship and him alone shall you serve.” In the Gospel of the Second Sunday of Lent, our Father in heaven assured us again: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” In this Third Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus revealed himself to a Samaritan woman: “ . . . whoever drinks the water I give will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give . . . will become a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” For what do we thirst, and what will we choose? Beginning this weekend, our parish will participate in a mission whose theme is: “Destination Holiness”; do I thirst for “Holiness of Faith, Hope, and Love?” Am I able to acknowledge that this is a right time for me to choose life with Jesus Christ, the Savior?
Finally, just to remind you that recently when many people went to church to worship or pray, they were robbed by someone in the church. This has been happening in neighboring churches. For your safety and for others, please do not leave your purse in the pews or give to your children to watch. Please do not give any money to those who ask you in the church or in the parking lot. Please instruct them go to the parish office or an agency for help. Thank you for your concern and cooperation!

May the Lord bless us all!

In Christ our Savior,

Rev. Quang Vinh Chu
